I'm Rico and I'm running for Senate to do something different!
My name is Rico Smith. I was born and raised all throughout the Northeast and Northwest sides of Oklahoma City. We deserve a Senator who will represent our community’s interests and fight with every fiber of their being to deliver real results and lasting relief for our families.
I’m running for the Oklahoma State Senate to do something different. I believe in the power our community has to be the force behind the bold change that our state desperately needs.
With this power, we can deliver economic justice to the 22,000 residents of Senate District 48 who work full time yet still live in poverty, we can secure the renters’ rights of tens of thousands and make home ownership more accessible for all of our people—and so much more.
I’m running to represent Oklahoma’s 48th Senate District because we simply cannot afford to wait through four more years of inaction. The cost is too high.
With your help and your support, I know we can make Oklahoma a better State!
For four generations, Rico’s family has been proud to call Senate District 48 home. With young parents in and out of prison, Rico was raised by both sets of grandparents. Being exposed first hand to the realities of our criminal justice system, Rico grew up with a focus on how law could be used to change people’s lives.
This passion for law and justice inspired Rico to go to college—becoming the first male in his family to graduate after attending the University of Oklahoma. In 2018, Rico received a Masters degree from The George Washington University’s School of Political Management where he studied under prominent political professionals-both Republicans and Democrats.
Rico brings several fresh perspectives to the race for Oklahoma State Senate District 48. He’s a small business owner with real life experiences of having to grow a business facing a global pandemic. He’s a community organizer who is deeply involved in his community, and a political strategist with years of proven experience.

Senate District 48 needs an advocate like Rico who will organize, fight, and use every tool at our disposal to force votes on the issues that matter most, to block the radical bills from coming out of the State Capitol, and to leverage our collective power to create systemic change everywhere we can.
